Italian high-performance powertrain developer Mavel has selected slot liners and wedges along with magnet wire insulation from Syensqo for integration into Mavel’s latest high-voltage electric motor for a renowned premium sports car manufacturer.
“We are excited to collaborate with Syensqo and integrate their advanced Ajedium and KetaSpire PEEK solutions into our latest high-voltage electric motor,” said Luca Favre, head of motor development at Mavel Powertrain. “Material excellence is at the core of our commitment to delivering cutting-edge electric powertrains to our automotive customers.”
The products involved are Syensqo’s Ajedium PEEK (polyetheretherketone) slot liners and slot wedges and monolayer KetaSpire PEEK magnet wire insulation, designed to improve EV efficiency and thermal performance. Supporting operations at over 800 volts, the materials’ reduced thickness allows for more copper in the motor design, improving electrical output and thermal management.
“We are proud to partner with Mavel on a project that demonstrates the tangible improvements in efficiency that our solutions bring to electric vehicles,” noted Brian Baleno, director of global business development and program management at Syensqo. “This development is an important stride towards increasing the viability and capabilities of battery electric vehicles, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles and hybrids.”
Founded in 1999 and located in Pont St Martin, north of Turin, Mavel initially focused on high-speed, small electric motors. Over time, the company expanded its expertise and capabilities, becoming a key player in the automotive and e-mobility sectors. Today, it holds a portfolio of over 60 international patents, primarily across Europe and China, and continues to push the boundaries of clean energy with advanced solutions trusted by some of the world’s most prestigious car and motorcycle brands.
