Grundfos E-Motors Electrify Pumping Systems with Energy Efficiency

Using motors designed and produced in-house, global pump manufacturer Grundfos is bringing new energy efficiency and capabilities to pumping systems for a broad range of applications, many of which were once were the domain of hydraulic technology. Its MGE E-motors — permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM) designed especially for frequency converter operations and optimized for pump applications and high part-load efficiency — are the company’s most energy efficient yet.  […]

Consortium developing sensor array to prolong fuel cell life

Getting rid of contaminants in cathode air is the problem. With research studies in Germany and a prototype that will be tested in China, Mann+Hummel is leading a consortium seeking to develop an air filter system that will prolong the life of fuel cells for commercial vehicles. Advanced air filtration sensor technology is seen as an important tool in improving the performance/lifetime ratio of fuel cell systems and the company has its sights set on the Chinese market particularly. Luvata Pursues EV Market to Apply Hollow Magnet Wire in Direct Cooled Stators

Direct-cooled motors with hollow conductor stators offer several advantages over the indirect-cooled motors currently used in EVs, says Luvata of Finland, which has been making copper hollow conductors for more than sixty years. Adoption of the technology, typically used in more exotic applications such as superconduction, high-energy physics and magnetic resonance imaging, into mass-market electric vehicles faces considerable technical obstacles, however, and much higher cost than conventional magnet wire.  […]
